The Martyrs Mothers Union meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the church hall at 2.30pm. Everyone is welcome.
We have 32 members, these are not all ladies, men are included too. We have a short service usually with a hymn followed by a speaker. This is followed by tea and cake or biscuits. The topics are very varied, each year we have a different theme.
We also have joint meetings with other branches in the deanery. Drop in and see us at one of our meetings, you will be sure of a warm welcome.
The funds we raise go to the many projects the Mothers’ Union run to support family life, both here and overseas. The big one our branch helps to support is the Chalet Holidays. This is for needy families who otherwise wouldn’t get a holiday. Two members from the diocese go with them for support and to make the holiday really special.
Various activities happen locally during the year to raise funds; these include a Spring Fair with all the other branches in the deanery. Also our Fish and Chip Supper followed by a film. These have proved very popular both with children and adults.
Every two years we have a carol service at the cathedral with all the branches in the diocese.
