Dear Martyrs family,
Further to our previous correspondence, due to the changing picture of Coronavirus and the resulting advice around social distancing and staying at home, the church of the Martyrs is now closed for all gatherings, including on Sunday mornings. Our worship of God and care for each other continues, just it cannot be done in our church building.
We do want to continue to encourage you to connect with each other using social media, text, phone calls and other creative platforms.
At the Martyrs we are planning to live stream on Facebook:
Please join us for these!
Below is a reminder of some other possibilities available to us. If you see any additional resources that you think may be worth sharing please do let us know.
Some possible resources…
Radio 4 hosts services every Sunday at 8.10am and (on long wave or Digital radios) at 9.45am.
‘Songs of Praise’ is usually shown every Sunday at 1.15pm.
Each day, the Church of England posts a daily prayer, in both text and audio form. (https://www.churchofengland.org/prayer-and-worship/join-us-daily-prayer/todays-prayer)
Another website, https://pray-as-you-go.org/, produces daily prayer sessions that combine music, scripture and some reflective questions.
While churches will individually update their availability to live-stream services, the Church of England website provides a number of churches which are expected to broadcast their service online. This includes:
We will also seek to stay updated with news and stories on this page and Martyrs Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ChurchOfTheMartyrs/ and we are also aiming to send out a weekly newsletter with further encouragement and updates on church life!
Finally, let us continue to pray and care for each other during this time of crises in our nation and the world as a whole.
One beautiful prayer I came across this morning reads
We’re grateful that you never leave us or forsake us. And, we’re grateful for the technology that helps us to stay in touch with each other.
Give us the strength to endure this difficult season, and deepen our connection with you and your people.
Today, help us to remember that this time of social distancing and isolation will not last forever.
Empower us with an extra dose of your love, peace, hope and joy. Remind us of your promises, and please heal our land.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen
